Since 2009, the Queen’s Law Business Clinic (QBLC) has been where education and community meet.

QBLC offers students the unique opportunity to provide legal assistance to business start-ups, small businesses, not-for-profits, and charities who might otherwise be unable to afford counsel in Kingston and southeastern Ontario. Under the supervision of expert counsel, Queen’s Law students develop essential legal skills while helping clients navigate incorporation, charitable registration, contracts, and intellectual-property protection.

This choice of experiential learning strengthens not only our law students' understanding of how law shapes business decision-making and economic growth, but also its impact on broader societal issues. The QBLC also provides invaluable services to the  Kingston community. Every incorporation filed, contract reviewed, and charity registered provides our students with real client-facing experience, while helping these businesses in meaningful ways. Since its founding in 2009, QBLC has:

  • ·         Assisted 580 businesses with incorporation filings

  • ·         Supported 180 not-for-profit organizations with charitable status registrations

  • ·         Completed 100+ trademark applications

  • ·         Helped 220 businesses with contract drafting and review

More than 100 students apply each year for just 24 positions at QBLC, and at any given time, there can be over 150 active files.

Your support ensures that QBLC can expand to meet this growing need, offering more students the chance to learn through service and providing more community members with the legal support they deserve.
