Mark Walters, Law’89, completes his tenure as Dean Faculty of Law on June 30, 2023, to continue his teaching, research and scholarship commitments.

Among his priorities and achievements as Dean, Mark has made significant strides in advancing the integration of Indigenous knowledge, legal traditions, and restorative justice into the academic environment, while further progressing the Faculty’s trajectory as a Canadian leader in legal education.

The Indigenous Faculty Resource Fund has been a critical tool in executing Mark’s vision, and more broadly, Queen’s Faculty of Law’s strategic priorities of inclusion and advancing reconciliation. This Fund advances key initiatives related to Indigeneity and reconciliation through curriculum research, program development, conferences, lectures, workshops and more. Indigenous initiatives such as land-based learning and commemoration programming at Queen’s Law have secured our position as a leader in Indigenous knowledge, continuing foundational work to support the next generation of Indigenous law students, and contributing to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action no. 28 for Canadian law schools.

To commemorate Mark’s tenure, we invite you to be part of the enduring project of reconciliation at Queen’s Law by making a donation.

We also would love for you to share a congratulatory message for Mark to celebrate his transformative tenure as Dean and wish him luck with his future endeavours in legal academia. Comments will be shared on a commemorative page in the coming weeks.
