ABOUT THE ISABEL STRING QUARTET FUND
The Isabel String Quartet is an artistic concomitant to the excellence of the Isabel Bader Centre as a performance venue and an ambassador for the Dan School of Drama and Music. In addition to its concert schedule, the Isabel Quartet tours schools across the province to provide community outreach and recruit students. Through its concerts and tours the Isabel Quartet provides a unique way of communicating the commitment, leadership and strength of Queen's and Kingston in support of the performing arts in Canada.
The Isabel Quartet presented its inaugural concert in June 2016 and then opened the Dan School of Drama and Music’s Faculty Artist Series with a concert in October of the same year. Since that debut concert, the quartet has presented at least three concerts each year at Queen’s University occasionally expanding to present Quintets with performers such as double bassist Joel Quarrington and pianist Frédéric Lacroix. Cellist Wolf Tormann has been the driving force behind this ensemble and the one member who has been a part of the ensemble since the beginning. His current colleagues are violinists, Katya Poplyansky and Julia McFarlane, and violist, Caitlin Boyle.
