French Studies
French Studies is a research-based department where students immerse themselves in the diversity of francophone cultures through literature, develop critical thinking and reading practices, and become competent and confident users of the French language.
Students in French Studies have many opportunities to apply the skills they learn in the classroom to concrete work applications. Those interested in a career in teaching can apply to teach first-year tutorials as part of FREN 499. Others, whose interests lie in marketing, event planning, and research, organize an academic research conference each April to present the results of their FREN 498 research projects.
In addition to these regular activities, French Studies works with its partners to find unique learning opportunities for our students. In May 2024, students travelled to a literary event organized by the French Embassy in Ottawa as part of the Choix Goncourt du Canada.
Thanks to our donors, students can continue to explore these and other exciting learning opportunities without the worry of financial barriers. Merci pour votre soutien!
