PEQ is a structured program designed to connect students exhibiting signs of anxiety and/or depression with the resources they need to become more physically active. A collaboration between Athletics and Recreation and Student Wellness Services, it is based on work at other Canadian universities and on research showing evidence of the positive effects of exercise on university students’ mental health. Students are “prescribed” exercise by a counsellor or physician at Student Wellness Services as part of a treatment plan. After an initial intake process, including 'Brief Action Planning' (Motivational Interviewing based goal setting) they are offered personal training sessions.

The PHE PEQ fund was established with a leadership gift from the PHE Class of 1973. It is their goal to grow support for the fund outside of their class, ensuring the sustainability of the program.
