In honour of their 5th reunion, Science ‘17 is working towards establishing the Grant Mitchell Memorial Award. The fundraising goal is $50,000 to create a fund, but we hope to exceed this target. This award will be given to a student who is enrolled in any year of the Queen’s University Applied Science and Engineering Program. The recipient of this award will demonstrate exemplary leadership in community service activities and have demonstrated financial need. In 2020, we lost one of our peers, Grant Mitchell. Grant tragically passed after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He is remembered by all who knew him as a person of great empathy and kindness, and we would like to honour his legacy with a memorial fund in his name. Grant was an active volunteer in his local firefighting unit, a member of the Queen’s Bands Cheerleading Team, and a selfless member of the Sci ’17 community. If you had the opportunity to meet him, you will remember his huge smile, easygoing attitude, and his generosity of time. It is this altruistic spirit that we wish to celebrate with this fund. If you have the means, please consider supporting this award.
