Dr. Ronald Watts
Principal Emeritus Ronald L. Watts passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015. He was the 15th Principal of Queen’s, serving from 1974-1984 and also one of the youngest, at 45, to assume the office. Since arriving at Queen's 60 years ago he showed a genuine interest in students, faculty and staff and continued as a mentor throughout his retirement.
Principal Watts was a distinguished scholar in the fields of federalism and intergovernmental relations. He was recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in these areas, and travelled extensively as an expert consultant to governments around the world. His immense contributions both to academe and society at large were recognized in many ways, including five honorary degrees, an appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1979, followed by his promotion to Companion in 2000, and by his Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada.
Ron's wife of 61 years, Donna, has requested donations in his memory be made to the J A Corry Memorial Endowment fund.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11 am in Grant Hall, University Ave.
