The Robert Sutherland Fellowship in Law
Queen’s Faculty of Law established The Robert Sutherland Fellowship in Law to honour Robert Sutherland, British North America’s first black lawyer, and the first person of African heritage to graduate from Queen’s University. The Robert Sutherland Fellowship in Law is dedicated to Robert Sutherland’s memory, and also to his roots: the intent of the Fellowship is to allow students of similar brilliance to follow his path from the Caribbean to Canada in pursuit of excellence in legal education.
