In Memory of Bruce Berman
Professor Bruce J. Berman was a distinguished faculty member in Political Studies from 1971 to 2003 whose scholarly interests focused on the political economy of post-Colonial independent African states. Widely acknowledged as one of Canada’s leading experts on African politics, Professor Berman’s doctoral students advanced into the academy and public service in Canada, the West Indies, South Africa, Kenya, and Rwanda. Professor Berman was the Principal Investigator of the Ethnicity and Democratic Governance Program (EDG), the first Major Collaborative Research Initiative (MCRI) at Queen’s. For six years he led a team of more than 36 scholars from around the world to explore the complex issues of governance in multiethnic democracies.
His intellectual curiosity, passion for knowledge, and dedication to the pursuit of diversity, equality and democracy will be dearly missed.
Honour Bruce by supporting the important work of the Department of Political Studies at Queen’s.
