The Bronwyn Keatley Scholarship was established by friends and family in honour of Bronwyn Keatley, BSc 2002, PhD 2007.  Dr. Keatley studied Arctic environmental changes archived in Arctic lakes and ponds during her doctoral degree. Passionate about communicating science so that it reaches beyond a typical scientific audience, she also co-developed and co-hosted a science radio show while in graduate school.  Dr. Keatley translated her interests into a career in science-based policy with both Environment Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.  During her professional career, Dr. Keatley worked at the nexus of science and policy on issues ranging from polar bear conservation to more general aspects of Arctic marine sciences, and fish habitat management and science.

The Scholarship is awarded to Masters or PhD students enrolled in School of Environmental Studies or the Department of Biology in the School of Graduate Studies who are pursuing coursework, research, or knowledge translation work that includes components of science policy or science communication. On the basis of academic excellence, preference may be given to students who self-identify as belonging to an underrepresented or inequality group in science.
