Welcome to the Early 1960's Football Gaels Commemorative Athletic Award Online Giving page.
Progress: 93% Complete
*This level of commitment will allow the award to provide roughly $4,500 per year of support. Any additional donations will be used to support more student-athletes.
The early 60's was a golden period for Queen's Football. The team competed in the Yates cup 5 years in a row, winning it three times… '61,' 63, and '64. The 1963 and 64 Golden Gaels were two of the very few teams in the long history of Queen's football to complete back-to-back undefeated seasons.
The members of the team strongly endorse the significant role that Queen's football played in their personal development and in their careers. This award represents the intention of the members of the early 60's teams to commemorate this legacy and those that have passed away. Financial support will be provided each year to a student-athlete who has demonstrated their ability both on the field and in the classroom.
Being a student-athlete requires a significant commitment of time and energy. They make sacrifices and face challenges in meeting the daily demands of full-time education, competition, travel, and community outreach. Athletic financial awards (AFAs), which are awarded based on academic achievement and athletic excellence, enable student-athletes to focus and excel in their studies and training. These awards also send an important message of belief and support that inspires student-athletes to concentrate on realizing their academic and athletic goals.
Queen's aims to be the destination of choice for top-performing student-athletes. However, attracting and retaining the very best student-athletes is challenging in this fiercely competitive post-secondary environment. We want more of Canada's best to choose Queen's University because of our leading academic and athletic reputation, high-calibre coaching, and award-winning athletic facilities and support services. However, for many outstanding candidates, an offer of an athletic financial award is the key deciding factor.
In appreciation of their support, we would like to recognize these team members, who have agreed to have their names on the list of members, who contributed $1000 or more to the success of the fund:
John Haig Merv Daub Laird Rasmussen Bob Latham Bill and Carol Sirman Jimmy Ware John Latham
