Commerce 1991
The BCom 1991 Award
At Smith, we believe a student’s financial situation should not curtail their opportunities. Higher education has been hailed as a great equalizer, and it stands to reason, when we make a Commerce education available to all exceptional students, we enable a broader range of perspectives and voices to inform leadership, innovation, and advancement in business and society.
We rely on philanthropic support from our alumni and friends to ensure exceptional students are able to attend and benefit from the Commerce program, regardless of their financial situation. One in four students in the Commerce program qualifies for financial assistance, and for many, a bursary or award makes the difference in determining whether they will be able to accept their offer to attend Smith School of Business.
The BCom 1991 Award was established in 2016 in honour of the class’s 25th reunion and is gifted to a deserving first-year student in the Bachelor of Commerce program each year based on demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, proven leadership skills and involvement in school or community activities. The award is renewable for three subsequent years provided academic achievement is maintained each year and financial need remains evident. Since its creation, the BCom 1991 Award has supported five deserving students.
Your support, today, will help make the future brighter for our students, our community, and our society.
"I am so thankful to be the recipient of this generous award. It has allowed me to attend one of the best business programs in Canada. Smith will offer me so many experiences and I will grow as a business leader and person. I hope to one day be able to give back to Queen's to help others." – BCom 1991 Award Recipient, 2020-21
